Get urgent, express or emergency weekend passport services

If you need your passport faster, you may be able to get one of these services:

To get the services, you

You must provide proof that you need the passport

Proof you need the passport can be

  • an airline, bus or train ticket
    • If travelling by car, a written statement explaining why you need to travel
  • a travel itinerary showing proof of payment
  • proof of illness or death in the family requiring you to travel
  • a written statement from you or a third party explaining why you need the passport
    • For example, for legal, banking or residency requirements

If we can’t deliver the passport in time to you or your child, we aren’t liable for any losses.

We recommend that you don’t finalize any travel plans until you get your passport.

Instructions to get urgent or emergency services

Answer the following questions to learn about your next steps.

If we didn’t meet our service standard: You applied for a passport and now need one on a weekend or statutory holiday (in Canada and for emergencies only)

To get your passport on a weekend or statutory holiday

  • call us ahead of time at 1-800-567-6868. Our agents answer calls Monday to Friday
    • 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (your local time)
    • 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Newfoundland)
    • except for statutory holidays

Office closures for statutory holidays

Passport offices and Service Canada Centres will be closed on these dates in 2023:

  • January 2
  • April 7
  • April 10
  • May 22
  • June 26 (Quebec only)
  • July 3
  • August 7 (except Quebec)
  • September 4
  • October 2
  • October 9
  • November 13
  • December 25 and 26

You need to pay some fees, but you can get a refund

You need to pay $355 for the weekend or statutory holiday service.

To get your passport on a weekend or statutory holiday

You need to pay additional fees

 To get the weekend or statutory holiday service, you’ll need to pay $355.

  • If you need the service for your family at the same time, you need to pay an urgent fee of $110 per family member.
  • For example, the fees for a 10-year passport for yourself and a 5-year passport for your child will be
    • $160 for your passport
    • $355 for your weekend or statutory holiday service
    • $57 for the child’s passport
    • $110 for the child’s urgent service

 You don’t need to pay these application fees again (depending on what you applied for):

  • $120 (5-year adult passport)
  • $160 (10-year adult passport)
  • $57 (child passport)
  • any other additional fees (such as fees to replace a lost or stolen passport)

We cannot guarantee that you’ll get your passport on time

For example, you may not get a passport within your timeline if

  • there are security concerns with your application or
  • your application is incomplete

If you’re still waiting for your submitted application within the service standard: You applied for a passport and now need one by the end of the next business day (in Canada)

To get your passport by the end of the next business day or less

You need to pay additional fees

 To get the urgent service, you’ll need to pay these additional fees

  • $110 (urgent pick-up fee)
  • $45 (transfer fee)

 You don’t need to pay these application fees again (depending on what you applied for):

  • $120 (5-year adult passport)
  • $160 (10-year adult passport)
  • $57 (child passport)
  • any other additional fees (such as fees to replace a lost or stolen passport)

We cannot guarantee that you’ll get your passport on time

For example, you may not get a passport within your timeline if

  • there are security concerns with your application or
  • your application is incomplete

  • $50 (express pick-up fee)
  • $45 (transfer fee)

  • $120 (5-year adult passport)
  • $160 (10-year adult passport)
  • $57 (child passport)
  • any other additional fees (such as fees to replace a lost or stolen passport)

We cannot guarantee that you’ll get your passport on time
